Coaches as father figures.

Some should be and some shouldn't, but it is a fact that in todays sports world coaches are sometimes the only role model kids have. Statistics say 50% of couples that get married will get divorced. Usually they will have children who will end up with the mother in most cases (although this is not always the best thing). The fathers usually get weekend visits, sometimes every other weekend. So sometimes a male coach is the only grown man a child will see for up to 2 weeks. Practices maybe everyday, games 2-3 times a week depending on the sport. A child will see this man more than their father in some cases. I don't always think this is a good thing. I know coaches who are the highest caliber of people and would be great father figures. And I know coaches who are great at X's and O's but shouldn't push their morals on anyone. I think sometimes in todays sports world we get too caught up in winning and stats and don't see the big picture when it comes to our children. What kind of people are going to be their role models? A coach who may drink and run around on his wife but wins championships? Or a coach who will represent how a man should act either winning or losing? I would choose the better man everytime for my child because sports will only last so long. The type of character you have will follow you forever.
